＜基本中の基本＞ There is[are]〜.は「〜があります。」という意味を表す。 「〜」にあたる名詞が単数のときはThere is〜.で，複数のときはThere are〜.になるぞ。 （例）There is a book on the desk. 　　　（机の上に本が１冊あります。） 　　　There are two books on the desk. 　　　（机の上に本が２冊あります。） 疑問文はisやareをthereの前に出して，Is there〜?やAre there〜?となる。 その疑問文に対する答えはYes,there is[are]./No,there isn't[aren't]. ＜注意しよう＞ There is[are]のあとには，theが付いた名詞や，myやyourなどが付いた名詞はこない。
